It depends on how far below the roof you are as to how you brace it. We
have a 2000 feet long run of 10-inch pipe but it is only 3 feet below a
concrete ceiling (basement ceiling). To brace it between expansion joints
we have plate welded to the pipe and a base plate with welded tab bolted to
the ceiling with angle iron bolted to both tabs. Think bridge construction
when visualizing this.

You don't say what your building framework is but presumably you don't have
similar conditions. The cable bracing may be your only option.

By the way the expansion joints are the longitudual slip joint type -
original construction - but we have had no problem with them leaking. We
did put linear stops on them to prevent them from pulling out, which almost
happened one time. An open 10-inch pipe in the basement with fire pumps
behind it would have been a sight to see.

Hello Sprinklerforum,

I am looking for ways to put longitudinal bracing on a straight run of 6"
Schedule 40 pipe that can expand or contract About 5" with a temperature
swing from 40 degrees to 100 degrees. This is a 1400' durn near straight
run. I am looking at using a Metraflex Building Separation loop for an
expansion loop.
