I have had a fair amount of interaction with plumbers doing 13 D multipurpose systems (not because I wanted to) The ability to install these systems according to an approved plan is something that most can do. When there are changes to the home during construction resulting in a modification to the system that's where the fun begins.
Most do not even recognize the issue until they have gone through it a few times. If there is a competent AHJ in the jurisdiction that's who will catch the need for a modification. (Often after the sheet rock is installed) A custom home in my view, presents a very challenging design even to an experienced designer and when its a moving target because of construction changes it becomes even more difficult. Add a long distance designer and a limited experienced installer it becomes a real nightmare. Nobody makes any money except FedEx. The builder is hot because of delays. The designer has to pull information out of the air and the AHJ becomes concerned as to everyone's ability. If there is a value to a multipurpose system and I think there is. . . Why should a plumber be able to find a short cut into the market if a sprinkler contractor can't make a potable connection to a toilet. The plumbing industry is pushing it because the plumbers do not want to pass the NICET testing requirements for design or installation. Just a quick heads up to all. Have a Happy New Year.
