In PA we seem to be celebrating burnt baby month, and it will remain a
tradition forever the way the tide of the Bought in Harrisburg are moving.
Sorry its neither new or exciting, but it sure is real.
You'd think between 7 kids dying in one fire alone, and the effects of the
disasters in Japan being mitigated by the strict building codes, it would be
obvious this week (to those that can see beyond a campaign check) that there is
value in having building codes to protect the populace.

Sorry to be so blunt on a Monday AM, but the reality doesn't go away. The irony
just makes the pandering for dollars so much more pathetic.

I've grown bored with BAF discussions. Need something new and exciting.

And here's the simplified text from the 2010 commentary which says the same
thing as the 2007 commentary.

NFPA 13, 2010 -*The storage of materials in stairwells obstructs the egress
route and is prohibited by NFPA 101. However, if there is an open space under
the first landing or a large landing at the top of the stairs it is often an
irresistible location for transient storage. As a result, 8.15.3.2.1 requires
sprinklers at these locations."

OK so let's find a new topic for this week.

Craig,

Don't be to greedy with the gold stars to that poor engineer or one
day you might have to hand over one of your own.
The engineer did not take any license, he only quoted the most recent
edition of NFPA 13.
The word "accessible" might not be in the 2007 edition, but it does
show up in the 2010 edition:

"8.15.3.2.1 In noncombustible stair shafts having noncombustible
stairs with noncombustible or limited-combustible finishes,
sprinklers shall be installed at the top of the shaft and under the
first accessible landing above the bottom of the shaft."

In fact the word "accessible" is the only difference in the wording
of this paragraph between the two editions.

Met vriendelijke groet / Yours sincerely,
