I don't know if you have access to old Technical Updates, but this issue was address a long time ago.
NFPA 13 (07) 7.2.6.5.1 only requires that the air maintenance device to be listed. The air compressor is only required to restore the normal air pressure in the system within 30 minutes and is not required to be listed. Dale F. As I read the NFPA 13 3.2.3. concerning equipment listing, it shall be "listed". This air compressor performs as it should; however it is not listed for fire sprinkler use, as per AHJ. So my question is this are nitrogen bottles listed for fire sprinkler use as well as their regulators and hoses? Are all shop air compressors listed for fire sprinkler use that we tap into? The UL listing on any air compressor is valid? I didnt feel confident enough to challenge the AHJ (Local Fire Captain) concerning these questions or my interpation of codes. So what will the forum say?
