Subject: Standpipe FDC Inlets

How many of you put a 4 way FDC on every 1000 gpm standpipe system or a 5 way
on parking garage without sprinklers and 4 or more standpipes? I have seen many
buildings with two standpipes and a 2 way FDC.

2007, NFPA 14, 7.12.3 states: Fire Department Connection sizes shall be based
on the standpipe system demand and shall include one 2½ in. inlet per every 250
GPM.

Phoenix at one time required one inlet per 250 gpm on sprinkler systems until
we did a tire warehouse and needed a 14 inlet FDC.
