NFPA 13 23.1.6.1.2 The transition piece shall be protected against possible
damage from corrosive agents, solvent attack, or mechanical damage.

It is generally interpreted to mean you can't use C900 or plastic through the
floor. Although I have seen AHJ's approve with a metal sleeve around it up to
the transition to steel.

Subject: Underground Pipe Material

When underground pipe passes under a foundation and stubs up into a building,
does the pipe have to be Ductile Iron? I know that's all I've ever seen, but
can C900 PVC pipe be used?

I've browsed through the International Plumbing Code and didn't find any
discussions about this situation.

Thanks,
