Small areas (under 10sf) that are framed out to make the tub / shower
fit. We have CC2 sprinklers in the combustible rated ceiling space
above but nothing figured for these dead areas. The GC will not call
these pipe chases because they do not contain pipe even though there is
a rated floor above and below. He either wants them to have a
sprinkler, be filled with insulation, or pick up 3000SF design area. We
agreed to put sprinklers in the larger ones but many are only about 1.5
SF and it doesn't make sense to install them here. Looking to add about
100 heads per floor (4 stories) and we are trying to find options to
save the owner money.

Subject: RE: CC2/ RESIDENTIAL - AREA INCREASE

Just curious. If the CC2 is being used in the combustible concealed
space why would the 3000 sqft rule be an issue?

Subject: CC2/ RESIDENTIAL - AREA INCREASE

NFPA 13 (02ed) section 11.2.3.1.8 (3)

Does the 3000 SF area increase of this section apply to CC2 and
residential sprinklers? I know NFPA 13 2010 provides some guidance but
this AHJ follows 2002.

Thanks,
