Just to clarify, between the 47 and the 16 is a 32" wide opening in the
wall, floor to ceiling. If the barrier is required between bathrooms, I need
3 heads because the shower enclosure is glass!

thanks Eric, bathroom in hotel room 13-2007. I have 87 ft2 overall bathroom,
broken up into 3 compartments: 24 ft2 shower enclosure floor to wall, 47 ft2
with a sink, and 16 ft2 with toilet. If the thermal barrier is between a
bathroom and a non bathroom, I think no sprinklers required, as we have the
typical metal stud and gyp walls between these 3 bathrooms and the
non-bathroom spaces.

I would assume you are referencing NFPA 13R, 2002 edition. In the 2007
edition the requirement for the thermal barrier has been removed.

2002 edition, section 6.8.2 - thermal barrier required.
2007 edition, section 6.9.2 - not required

Subject: thermal barrier

I searched the archives and found:

"The thermal barrier is between the bathroom and the adjacent space".

The statement was made by Mr. Craig L. Prahl.

Craig (or any other helpful forumite), is their a code I can reference to
back the statement up?

many thanks,
