Dear Sirs: As always, It is an honor writing to this forum. A customer has a Cyclopentane inside storage, 110 square meters of area, solid pile on wood pallet, 4 highs, to complete 15 feet of top of storage, with 26 feet maximum ceiling high. Cyclopentane is in metallic relieving 55 gallons drums, 4 drums per pallets, 16 drums for storage load at 4 higs as I said before. Cyclopentane is a flammable class IB liquid according to NFPA 30. According to the mentioned standard, storage must have a 0.60 over 3000 water-foam sprinkler protection, but the pump (you can find the pump and current fire protection system in this link http://www.mediafire.com/?jcpmvttv8v634 ) that is NOT a UL or/and FM one, doesn’t achieve the flow and pressure requirements, even it can be capable to supply the pressure for a traditional foam system (in line proportioner) . I tried with both traditional foam system and high expansion foam but system’s pressures (at least in my hyd calculations) don’t fit the requirements. However, I saw a Ansul AROUND-THE-PUMP foam system that could be a solution, but the data sheet doesn’t say anything about industrial application, it only show fire truck applications. So, I have two question for the forum: 1.- May I use AROUND-THE-PUMP foam systems for a industrial applicattions, considering that the pump is about 100 meters away from the storage? (the fire system drawing is in the above link http://www.mediafire.com/?jcpmvttv8v634 ) 2.- Can you make recommendations for this storage’s fire protection system without changing the pump? (the customer doesn’t have enough money to buy another one, he only wants the storage protection without expending in any other system). Thanks in advance and happy Sunday…
