For worse case scenario purposes, I applied .40 using the K-11.2 per Table
23.7 and calc'ed it along with my inside RA to be sure it would work for
pricing purposes. It calc'd just fine since the engineer is requiring a max.
water flow velocity of 20fps. Had to tweak my mains just a bit to lower my
velocity but it works. 

Can anyone guess what my first question will be to the engineer in the
Pre-bid Meeting next week?

In a pinch, FM and NFPA typically recommends 0.3 gpm / ft sq. A.S. over
many combustible liquids. Since it is confined to a small pit, I would be
*more
than comfortable *with this application rate of water-only agent.  This
applicaton will  not put our fire out, but it will keep things cool till
foam or dry-chem puts the kabosh on it.

Be sure to interface with the GC about drainage.  If none, fine.  If there
is drainage, have a P-trap in the drain so fire doesn't pass down and
continue the same.
