Mike,
It is my understanding that the HDPE AWWA C906 pipe is not listed for
use above ground and the transition from underground to above ground
should be made with a DI Class 52 Flange spigot piece with rodding and
thrust blocks.
Have seen some very large dollar losses where the underground plastic
pipe was exposed aboveground (about 6 inches above slab), and was
damaged during the pouring of the floor slab or by physical contact. The
installation was probability by an underground contractor with no
knowledge of the UL and NFPA requirements. As the sprinkler contractor
connecting on to the HDPF stub up you are assuming some liability since
you have not informed the GC, CM, Owner of the problem in writing. Since
the HDPE pipe stub up is before any water flow device a break at the
above ground portion of the HDPE pipe can result in a large amount of
water flowing before the break is detected.
Have a fire safe day.
Jim

Subject: Underground Stub-Up
Got a project that HDPE AWWA C906 pipe and fittings were installed.
The stub-up through the floor is a piece of HDPE AWWA C906 pipe with
a cap fused on the end and not rodded.
I've never seen this done before, is it acceptable with NFPA #24?
