Tony,

Not required by NFPA 13, as it has no roof, assuming that it is not sitting
under a combustible roof overhang;

but that does not mean it is a good idea to have a garbage enclosure next the
building.  I was involved with a fire in a compactor attached to a mercantile
No sprinklers in the compactor, as it is a piece of equipment on the exterior
of the building.  Smoke damage caused a loss estimated at $1 million (actual
loss unknown).

Subject: Garbage Enclosure

An office building (NFPA 13) has a garbage enclosure outside the building,
but attached to it. The garbage enclosure has no access from the building It
is fenced with gates from outside and does not have a roof.As it is attached
to the building, is it required to be sprinklered?

Tony
