NFPA 13 (2013) See Figures 8.6.5.1.2(b) & (c) Soffits over 24" wide require sprinklers

Do we need sprinklers under the soffit? 1st thought was no, because it is less than 48" wide, but then looking @ NFPA #13 - 2016, 8.6.5.1 and 8.6.5.2, it looks like we "will need" heads under the soffit. It is not like something 38" wide sitting out in the middle of a room where a pattern could develop around the obstruction from different areas. The edge of this soffit goes to the roof deck, so no pattern can develop around it. Thoughts? Greg Lindholm
