Jeff, one (an AHJ, not me) could argue that this figure doesn't apply since
there's already figure 8.6.5.1.2(c)

I personally feel that the difference between the soffit that goes all the
way up (as in 8.6.5.1.2c) vs the one shown in A.8.6.5.1.2 is ridiculous,
but at the end of the day, the latter is only in the appendix, not the main
body of the code.
