Are the sprinklers the cup and skirt type? You might be able to cut away enough of the escutcheon to get a pipe wrench on the barrel.

Unfortunately, there is less than 12" clear space above it so no way to get a man above it to wrench the head loose. When we try to remove it with a head wrench, it refuses to budge. If we break the head, we will be up the proverbial creek.
