Brad, you just hit the tip of the iceberg.. you are correct about the need
to do Quarterly main drain testing, this is about 99.9 percent of the
systems we install.

>From NFPA 25-2014:

Also see 13.3.3.1 Each control valve shall be operated annually through its
full range and returned to its normal position.

Then 13.3.3.4 A main drain test shall be conducted any time the control
valve is closed and reopened at system riser.

I understand that the alarms must be tested every six months per NFPA 72
with the valves being tested for tamper, if this is not coordinated with the
owner then that's a lot of main drain testing.

How often do you really think this is being done? Compliance with testing
and maintenance requirements just for the annual inspections is a head ache
for most jurisdictions.

Subject: Main Drain Test Question NFPA 25

>From NFPA 25-2014:

"13.2.5.2 In systems where the sole water supply is through a backflow
preventer and/or pressure-reducing valves, the main drain test of at least
one system downstream of the device shall be conducted on a quarterly
basis."

I've tried to make sure I am not taking this out of context or missing
something.

If this is being done there must be a WHOLE LOT of main drain testing going
on!!!

Any ITM Gurus got their ears on??

Thanks,

Brad
