I've heard of MYOB and I've seen/used QuickBooks. What is great about
SQL-ledger is that the "parts" table isn't as limited in size
(understatement) like it is for QuickBooks. I also don't know about
migrating from those platforms, unforunately, other than closing the
books and restarting them anew in the SQL-ledger. I am also interested
in hearing about more practical tools.

I don't know what a "CRM" is. I might run into it when I take the
classes the refer to them. Would you enlighten me? Thanks.

I am using a setup like that right now. All the links on SQL-ledger
(except for a few decorative stuff) uses relative links, so it filters
through the SSL. You can get fancy and use SSH tunnelling, but that
was a special case for me. :-) If you're using a "homebrew" SSL
certificate, make sure you tell your client that the self-signed cert
is still secure, and unless they're willing to shell out $1000 for a
VeriSign cert, just deal with the browser lying and saying it is
"untrusted". (Yeah, I had a client ask me about that. Doh!)
