Remember that originally MS licenced Java from Sun. They did not want to pay them any more so in release I believe Win 1998 came out with their 'proprietary' java. They have since argued in Court that they do not monopolize, so until her Honour decides the remedy that is where you are. MS manipulates file formats and calls with each Win release at will so as to force the unknow on the unsuspecting to upgrade Win all the time.

I agree with you Dieter, but dont agree to use closed Microsoft specificn
extension to JavaScript. I think this is why many people dont like
JavaScript, because there are many sites that always tell us:
"You dont have MS IE installed Please download the it!".
But this is not a valid reason to tell that JavaScript is not fair. Javascript
is just a language to embed into HTML nothing more. But if you got into the
close web of Microsoft in around JavaScript, then we will lose.
I never hear someone telling that C or C++ even Java is not a good language
just becaused they are closed to MS. This is ridiculous! But you will got
into the MS tramp if you use the libraries (or sometimes called "extensions)
of the specific language.
There are many JavaScript libraries that works fine in Netscape or Mozilla
compatible browsers. That means that are not tied to a specific browers or
company.
I hope you can got my point about that.

Antonio Gallardo.
