MMhh. The two "use models" above would work with the same effort and
disk space as normal message delivery

This escapes me (the difference between an inbox showing 20 headers
and one messages which when opened shows 20 headers/attachments)

OK, this may give some objective advantage if one needs it.

In the end, however, this confirms my initial feeling that the only
reason why the "digest-mode" was ever invented was simply that people
are different, their brains are wired in very different modes (all
equally good, of course) and some wiring schemes find digest mode (or
single messages) better "just because".

Nothing bad with this, and no harm to anybody, unless when one replies
with those highly informational subjects "Re: list-digest 2003-xx-xx,
YY messages" because he couldn't be bothered to rewrite it.

Thanks for your explanations.
