Thanks so much for the quick reply. It is a PowerPC model. One
interesting thing, it has an ATA interface. So I would need an ATA to
SATA adapter to install the SSD. I've done these kinds of upgrades
before - iFixit.com is just amazing on the upgrade instructions to do
stuff like this. I have an SSD sitting around currently unused. Not so
worried about speed - but I'd like to stuff the Mac mini in a little
wiring closet area and it would be easier not to have the external USB
hanging off the box. The USB disk is bus powered so at least I don't
need an additional power supply.

It is amazing how reliable these old Macs are. I always use the Mac with
hard wired Ethernet. I wired my whole house with Cat5E Ethernet. My
squeezeboxes (I have 3) are all hard wired Ethernet too. Rock solid
reliable.
