I don't know if this will help, but I have had my Touch (using Wi-Fi) do the "skip to next track early" thing on occasion. In my case, rebooting the Touch (pull the plug, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in) has always resolved the problem for me. I have never had to touch my LMS nor the host server.
Maybe your Touch works because it was recently booted, while the other device may just need a good cold boot.
