Applying the rule "Never change a running system", I have been running
LMS 7.7.5 for years now on my ReadyNAS Ultra 2. But, of course, I am
also curious about various little improvements that have been added in
later releases, so I checked the 'changelogs'
to see what I might be missing. Although I found it somewhat difficult
to imagine the practical impact of various changes, I concluded the
following:
- Moving from 7.7.5 to 7.8.1 is not worth the hassle, let alone
potential additional hassle for fixing something that broke through
the upgrade.
- Moving to 7.9 looks more interesting (e.g. I saw that drag'n'drop
has been added lately to the web-UI or that Spotify will work best on
7.9). But I would really like to avoid spending time on fixing
problems. I write a lot of bug reports for various softwares I test,
so I'd prefer not to have to do that with my music server. Various
unavoidable issues, like the end of the Smart Mix plugin or now the
end of the Spotify plugin have cost me enough time and nerves when I
had intended to do more relaxing things...
So I'd like to revive this thread asking: what are the chances that I
encounter issues if I upgrade to 7.9? Can anyone recommend a particular
nightly that seems to work flawlessly that I could sit on for a couple
of months (or even years)?
