My best guess is that some very aggressive anti-virus program is taking over when trying to browse these files. As suggested, try and use LMS in the normal manner (scan your library to ingest the files, then browse using the artist or album LMS menu rather than the music folder. This is just as a test to see if something odd is going on with "music folder" approach.
