Just to add a different perspective...
I have two pairs of powerline devices (Netgear and TP-Link), and they've never given me any trouble in ~5 years of use. I've only used them for Squeezebox players, so the throughput isn't particularly challenging. For some time I had one TP-Link connected to the router, and all three of the other units paired with it. I've since removed a couple of them (the two older Netgear units) because I now have better wifi coverage thanks to a mesh system, but I still use one and it's completely reliable.
