Yes, that's absolute possible. I even think it's the preferred setup. I've got a pi3 running with only lms laying around in the closet where all the wiring and electricity is situated. This one should be connected via a network cable. You might consider to power this one via a Ups to avoid sd card corruption when power fails. For the players I got a mix of pi, pi3, pi zero, an original boom, radio, transporter and SB2. Except for the transporter all playing via wifi.
