The 8.1 update does seem to run (have not tested playback yet, though). Thanks a lot for all your help!
Could you please give the latest nightly yet another try? And play with the startup options (starting LMS at boot time, or when signing in etc.)? I've modified the startup items to hopefully correctly instruct macOS to use the x86_64 architecture for now.
