It is through a managed switch, as it has been for a long time.

The packet -is correct -- the hostname is "files" - not very
imaginative, but it was at one time the file-server.

On each of the test systems I can see the packet going out with the
null-padded host-name. 4 different versions and 4 different hosts -
always behaving the same way, so I am sure the server is behaving
correctly.

1. as noted above, the server name is correct
2. the SB is getting and responding correctly to every other sort of
packet from  3 different bits of hardware plugged into the same switch,
so I can't see any failure path there.

If that refers to the "media library name" then I discovered in 2016
that having a non-empty value for that will definitely make the SB fail.
I'll check it anyway.
