Please edit /etc/default/logitechmediaserver and ass "--d_startup" to the parameters. That should give you more information.
The LMS runs under Ubuntu LTS 14.04 together with my Home Automation Server.
That's pretty old. And even if you got LMS to run I fear you wouldn't be happy for long, as SSL support might be badly outdated.
