In the setup where Orbi is in AP mode and conencted to internet modem. I
assumed that all devices would connected to Orbi and usually nothing
except Orbi is connected directly to modem.

The Orbi router is usually close to the internet modem as it will be a
wired connection. The LMS host wired connection should be moved to a LAN
port on the Orbi. The LMS host can also have its own firewall.

Yes. That is the configuration I have suggested and all my previous
comments to OP are in this mode. I think for domestic use with mesh
(i.e.router + 1 or more satellites), cascaded routers is a complicated
solution. Any far location can be connected using Orbi satellite in
daisy chain with a wired connection if too distant for radio - a
powerline one would be OK as it is a single point to point.

With a single router - the internet modem and all other devices are
handled by Orbi using either wifi or Orbi LAN ports on router or
satellites.
Main internet firewall and DHCP services are managed in the
modem/router. If there is on the modem/router - it is not to be used by
user devices (i.e. all user network access is via Orbi). You could use
turn off 2.4G in modem/router to avoid clash with Orbi but 5GHz can be
left on as there many channels and easy to avoid clash with Orbi user
and backhaul channels.

If there is a need for a device to be accessed from internet and also
from Orbi connected devices - then perhaps set it up on a DMZ on the
internet modem.
