No, I mean you're right that HTTP 1.1 is available now in LMS but 1.1 just means that the underlying TCP socket will not be closed (unless explicitly required by client/server) once an HTTP message+body has been received, it stays open for a given time (as I know you know :)). But here I'm talking about something different where LMS creates a new connection if the current *socket* fails. That's was my "reliable" plugin was doing, but imperfectly. What happens now, with my most recent PR, is that if a HTTP connection fails (because the socket fails), the HTTP handler will re-open a new socket and continue where things stopped (it will re-use the same HTTP request but with a different "Range" request). This applies to any plugin that is a subclass of HTTP(S). You know have two modes: - 'persistent' the socket will be re-opened if it closes and HTTP download will resume - 'cache/buffered' where LMS will download as quickly as possible the whole body and serve it from a "cached/buffered" file. In that mode, if the connection fails during the "high-speed download", then it will not be recovered, as any TCP connection (NB: for infinite streams, the cache mode fallback to persistent mode' Both serve the purpose of uninterrupted long streaming sessions (e.g. podcasts), where server do not like the connection to stay open for hours. Connections are a semi-expensive resource and such servers expect client to download as quickly as possible and go away. Maybe I should use a different choice of words, instead of "Persistent", maybe something that carries better the idea of "don't give up, retry to provide reliability" (resilience...).
