Not sure what happened with PlayMP4 but users have managed to install it on 8.* when it has a maxVersion of 7.9.* - I suspected it got carried along after upgrade.
They managed to install it without manual intervention? That I would consider a bug.
But please note that there two maxVersion values: one in the plugin package's install.xml, the other in the repository.
And tbh, I'm not sure what a plugin would do if it was installed with maxVersion "*" when LMS8 was installed, and maxVersion changed thereafter? Would it fail to "update", but leave the existing version running, as it still had the "*"?... One more thing to investigate.
