If I understand this correctly, it's about caching for the server (LMS),
not the player (your description is confusing, since you reference
players as examples). In your case, LMS runs on the media pc and reads
files from your NAS, presumably using some network file system. The
player may be on the same device or not, but isn't actually relevant.
So basically it's about caching files from a remote file system locally
(and isn't really specific to LMS), for which you can use 'FS-Cache'

May be worth it if you access your NAS using a metered dial-up
connection.
