Sean -- I would tread carefully here.  Maybe the decision-making is out

I'm a marketer with several years of brand development experience. 
Specifically, I've been directly involved in a number of brand
transitions on major food and consumer product brands.  Billion dollar
brands.  That sort of stuff.  

I'd hypthesize that there is a certain equity in the Slim Devices brand
quite unique from Logitech.  Especially among  your core group of
consumers.  These consumers believe that the Slim Devices brand could
deliver a product offering the quality promises of the Transporter, but
that Logitech could not.  It's believable to them that a Slim Devices
product could serve as a replacement for a dedicated high-end CD
player... but that a product from Logitech could not.  

Logitech....  mass market.  Cheap stuff, primarily known as a maker of
computer and video game input devices.

Slim Devices.... product quality.  Dedicated support. Audiophile sound.
Innovative.  Made by elves.

Imagine if Panasonic bought Rega and renamed the Mira the "Panasonic
Mira".  Ugg.

Imagine if AT&T dropped the Cingular name.... (sh^t!  that happened!).

Fact is... ALL of your good work over the years has contrinuted to the
Slim Devices brand and equity.  It's worth something.  Don't throw it
out.  Logitech may have the awareness, but Slim Devices will still
benefit from the distribution channels into mass retailers.  Maybe Best
Buy Magnolia will carry the Transporter.    

At least consider a "a logitech company" if it's so important.
