Hello. I bought a Duet on eBay last month and had the same problem (even though the seller assured me he had de-registered it). I contacted Logitech support and after a bit of confusion (because they were not very clear in their instructions), Logitech reset everything so I could register under my name. They never questioned whether I was authentic but I did send them screen shots confirming the details of my eBay purchase and emails with seller about de-registering.
The confusion was about setting up an account for tech support (as opposed to squeezecenter) as the first thing they did was tell me that had set up a new user account for me (even though I had one with squezecenter already): it took me a while to figure out they meant an ID to log into tech support. Then there was confusion becauise they didn't clarify they needed the MAC addresses of the controller and receiver. Silly stuff that ony came up because of receiving one sentence replies that didn't explain things well. It just took a few email exchanges to get things sorted out. At that point I thought Logitech was OK until 7.4 came along...
