In my opinion, lossless streaming is a bit pointless. So I don't think squeezebox users need to be jealous.
It can be useful to obtain and store audio losslessly at home. Among other things, it allows you to encode to lossy (for your smartphone, portable players etc.) without being subject to generation loss. But for streaming, I don't see the advantage of lossless over sufficiently high-bitrate lossy (which is going to be transparent). The stream is DRMed anyway so you don't have the option to transcode. Furthermore, for internet streaming, lossy has certain other advantages (e.g., low bandwidth requirements; availability of low-latency codecs). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ dafiend's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=60637 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=102121 _______________________________________________ squeezenetwork mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezenetwork
