That's not a very good answer or attitude. The 1.x protocol was purely
experimental, and is inadequate for long-term real-world use. There
probably wouldn't even be a 2.x protocol design if 1.x was OK.

That would be nice, but it won't matter much so long as we have at least
one good "open" implementation of the final IETF sanctioned protocol,
and it seems that will be the case, and it'll happen sooner if some of
us stop being lazy and put some effort into supporting those
implementations of 2.x that are already proceeding and/or writing our
own implementations.
