This describes the CD-ROM workaround, when installing an upgrade from a non-
Motorola CD. Problem is that your Apple upgrade disk expects to be launched
from an Apple CD-ROM drive but you probably have a Hitachi or some third
party drive.

You can make up a floppy disk limited system start up disk for start up from
the floppy disk drive. Use the instructions for making this up using the Disk
Tool copying software per the Motorola literature that came with Your
Starmax. After making the floppy startup disk, trash the HDSC setup and Disk
First Aid software that shows up on the disk, keeping only the mini-system
folder on the floppy disk. You will need the space to copy the Toolkit
extension. Then drag a copy of the CD-ROM Toolkit extension from the
extensions folder in the current system folder (Not the Apple CD-ROM
extension) presently on your hard drive. (Actually, it is best to disable
or trash the Apple CD-ROM Extension in your current system folder and use
the CD-ROM Toolkit Extension which is compatible with your CD-ROM drive.)

Startup using the emergency floppy you just made. It will startup with a
minimum system folder and launch the CD-ROM Toolkit extension that you copied
to the floppy disk. Now you should be able to insert the upgrade CD ROM and
read from it without going through any unusual key strokes.
