Wow! What a heated subject! Let me apologize for the length up front, but I also
feel strongly on this subject. I understand everyone's point of view and like all
controversial subjects everyone is entitled to their opinion of what's right or wrong.

The way he worded his question was horrible and makes him sound like a cheapskate, but
as a new mac user myself I can relate. I recently got a bunch of starmaxes (at a
thrift store FYI!) real cheap and the hard drives were wiped out. If I knew to ask
for free OS to get them up and running I would of. I had no clue if they worked, but
I ended up buying a copy of OS9.04 for $50. When you get a real legacy machine like
this and you're a new user you don't know yet if you want to invest heavily into
something that may or may not run great or at all! I've been a heavy PC user for
years, and this for me was a side hobby.

For those that are less financially situated though spending $100 or so for an OS when
you can buy a used or new computer with OS for a little bit more is ridiculous. This
isn't the same as getting the latest Imac and requesting free software. I think we
shouldn't get so worked up about this subject and see if we can get a new happy
Starmax user. Hopefully as he uses the Starmax as I have, he will become a more
(insert word here for whatever fits your belief) user. I would rather the Starmax be
used with a copy of legacy software no longer supported or used than be in a dump or
used as a footrest!

To the originator that requested this: I recently bought on E-bay the accesories that
came with the original Starmax, including the CD's. I got it out of
curiosity, intrigue, and support. I really have fallen in love with the Starmax. I
don't plan on using my version 7 whatever that comes with it and if you would like to
use my legal(although according to one of the e-mails reselling it w/o computer might
not make it so), I would be more than happy to help out a fellow user. I would
however recommend using OS9 if at all possible and if you're lucky you can find them
at thrift stores for real cheap! Please e-mail me directly for correspondence!

And to those that is offended by this, I'm sorry. But it was to helpful users on
sites like this that got me to be a Mac convert and I'd rather help than hinder a
fellow user. I'm sure there are some out there that will always take advantage of
good people, but I'd like to keep a positive attitude especially during these trying
times and holiday season.

Happy Holidays,
Rob
