We are trying to network a Starmax 3000/200 to a powerbook G4
superdrive. The Starmax was running 8.6.1 and is a 603e with 144 mb ram
and 10 gb hard disk. It has always been very stable.

We consulted a Mac dealer who sent us an ethernet card with the card
name of ATY, 264VT and a driver called RTL8139x and a crossover cable.
He also said we should upgrade to 9.1 and sent us that OS.

The upgrade went ok, but the Starmax is now very sluggish. We installed
the card and driver, and I followed all the mac help instructions on
both computers for setting up the ethernet connection, including
accounts on both. The Starmax sees the powerbook, but when I select
appleshare in the chooser and select the powerbook, it tells me that the
connection has suddenly terminated. The powerbook says that ethernet is
on but not connected. It does not see the Starmax. Also, the USB card
in the Starmax has disappeared from view and no longer works. Help!

I would like to connect these two computers, and I don't care how. I
want to access files on the Starmax from the powerbook. I would also
very much like to go back to the 8.6.1 OS. Is there an easier way than
ethernet? Can the Starmax take a firewire or bluetooth card? Or how
can I get the ethernet to work? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
