Ftp server, same thing.
LOL! What I'm laughing at is the misconception that Mac users aren't a technical lot... especially considering how IT-illiterate most Windows users are (don't blame 'em, either; that OS made me too scared to firkle with my computer for best part of a decade!). > > You might also check out Print66 which makes your OS 9 Mac into a nice > print server, even for Windows and OS X. I'm still, for instance, unsure as to why a web server might be of use to me (anyting network related is easily my weakest area of knowledge). What I originally had in mind was using the StarMax as a general-purpose PC in the guest room, so guests could have internet access, play music, maybe the odd game or two. beyond that, I had no particular plans for it, other than just broadening my experience of different computer architectures and OS's. > > > ... > > Here's a question you might be able to answer - why won;t the Starmax > > boot > > from CD, given that the CD I'm using IS a bootable one and does have a > > PPC > > operating system on it? Meanwhile, another, more pertinent thing has occurred to me - just maybe the software currently on the box could be tuned to run better - clearly some of you folk are happy with OS9 running on that kind of kit, which you wouldn;t be if it didn;t run tolerably well, so perhaps something's making mine run sluggishly? Maybe there's things I can do to make it run better? > > > Sigh... I hate seeing good hardware go to waste. And I;ve yet to see any misbehaviour from the Starmax, though granted I haven't used it anything like as much. Just runs much slower than I;d expect, and the way the interface works isn't to my taste. Still MUCH better than the Windows of its day, though! > > Ruffin Bailey Many thanks, Ruffin, very informative!
