Can you use wireless internet? How do you do that? Are there any wireless PCI cards that work?Yes. Two ways.

2) If you have the Airport Extreme base, I believe you can plug the Maxes' ethernet port to the AirPort Express Base Station with AirTunes ethernet port and network it that way. (The old Snow cannot do this) HOWEVER, to manage an Airport network, OSX is required. SO there had better be an OSX machine around somewhere to do this.
I #think# (and I'm afraid I'm lazy enough this is off of the top of my head) that that's an ethernet #in# port to pass along, say, the bits from a cable modem (this is something that my off-brand wireless router does, and I recall the Airport being the same last I checked). If you cross-over two wires perhaps you could get it to work, but it's just barely in non-trivial land.
The good news is that you can admin Airports with Windows, so most any old x86 hardware + a relatively new version of Windows -- ie, any buddy with a decent laptop -- can admin the beast for a Max user. Once you've got it set up, you really shouldn't need to administrate anything for a while.
Just for 2ยข on the "what can OS 9 do?" that's been answered fairly well. It can do it all (even Limewire), but stopped getting good application support as a rule some years ago (as was well noted). Luckily RealBasic continues supporting OS 9, so there are a number of cross-developed shareware apps for OS 9 yet. Pains are, as discussed, lack of iTunes Music Store support (haven't ever tried hooking up the iPod to Max. Hrm...), new browsers (Moz 1.3, though slow, does okay), and stuff like Adium or Fire. No Furthurnet was enough that I started a port, but the md5 checksum jive stymied me. ;^)
