I wonder if someone would be kind enough to address the question

stuck in 9.
The problem is the StarMax is 1990's technology. One can
retrofit some things to its PCI bus, but keep in mind that the Max is
a bit like that 63 Mustang, a classic, but do not expect the latest from
Detroit to run on it. All Mac development is pretty much focused on
OSX and OSX does not run on a StarMax. (I wish it did!).
I keep my StarMax around for my daughter who does simple stuff
on it (e-mail, chat, a little web stuff, some homework). For more
heavy duty stuff, she uses the family G4. The Max allows her internet
access when the G4 is tied up.
Can you use an iPod?
The last iTunes to run in OS 9 was 2.0, I believe. I do not know
if the current iPod sw will work with iTunes 2.0. (I do not have a
iPod, so I cannot try it). Of course, 2.0 does not support the iTunes
store, so you are out of luck there.
Can you use wireless internet? How do you do that? Are there any
wireless PCI cards that work?
Yes. Two ways. 1) Skynet sold a PCI adapter and wireless card
that would work on a Max. I think one can still find such things.
Look at www.macsales.com. They have all sorts of Mac stuff and usully
know what does and does not work with a StarMax. 2) If you have the
Airport Extreme base, I believe you can plug the Maxes' ethernet port
to the AirPort Express Base Station with AirTunes ethernet port and
network it that way. (The old Snow cannot do this) HOWEVER, to manage
an Airport network, OSX is required. SO there had better be an OSX
machine around somewhere to do this.
Can you use a USB 2.0 card in the Starmax? I assume Firewire works
OK.
Only if you have the correct PCI cards that support them. The
Maxes did not come with them.
Have there been any drivers written recently to enable newer
peripherals to work?
It would depend upon what you mean by "recently" and "newer" I
suppose, but in my lexicon I am not aware of any, but I could be wrong.
