Like I said on identi.ca, we at Fedora Project have very good experience with it. We have our own instance, but for statusnet it would be better to use hosted transifex.net site. Actually, initial setup has been done several weeks ago: http://www.transifex.net/projects/p/statusnet The only thing left to configure is commit access to repository, but it can be done quite quickly by admins.
