There is a general principle in the use of cutting tools and that includes
files rasps chissles saws and drills. You must never apply pressure on a
cutting tool when being drawn back but only in the direction of the cut.
This will keep the tools sharper longer. So if you are filing you must apply
pressure when pushing forwards ( the cutting direction ) and release the
pressure on the backward stroke. Use slowly and with force to alow the tool
to work properly. A wood file will not stay sharp for very long on stone but
it will last longer if you use it properly.
