there are stone rasps and files which can be found 
through sculpture house in new york (they are on the
web), i am sure there are also other places which
have them.  files used for work on metal tend to
last a bit longer but they all do eventually wear
down.  i also have used jewelers' tools and dentists'
tools for fine detail or tough to reach spots.
