Hello, on an LTO2 Ultrium I sometime receive errors from the backup software stating that if could not reposition the tape. If I stop the software and run "mt -f xxx eom" I got I/O error. Then I rewind, status, and everything seem fine. I don again "mt -f xxx eom" and I got again I/O error. On /var/adm/messages I find the following for every eom I try:May 30 12:24:32 iserver Error for Command: space Error Level: Fatal May 30 12:24:32 iserver scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Requested Block: 0 Error Block: 0 May 30 12:24:32 iserver scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Vendor: CERTANCE Serial Number: 0353-200 May 30 12:24:32 iserver scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Sense Key: Media Error May 30 12:24:32 iserver scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] ASC: 0x3b (sequential positioning error), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x0 what does it mean?
It means that you have a problem with that physical tape. Not the drive, the media. Replace the media. If it is still under warranty, send it back to your supplier for replacement/refund. James C.
