You aren't flashing firmware, you are flashing either fcode or bios, big difference. Neither sun FCODE nor BIOS are required to run the qlc driver.
Not only that, flashing this will not change the pci device ID, that is hardcoded on the card. If you want to run the QLC driver on a card that did not come from Sun, if it doesn't work by default, you HAVE to modify the driver_aliases as was suggested above.
