Connections will most assuredly go up when there is a connection. For the purpose of testing, you might try without the CHAP. Chap can support authenticating the server to the client, and the client to the server. you might have it backward from what you expect.
Additionally, if that does not help, there were some bugs related to default transfer sizes... I do not know if they are fixed in the offical version yet (to my knowlage they are not). I do have a copy of iscsitgtd that is functional with the affected initiators, I can send you it, and instructions for installing it if you need. Andrew M.
