Pros:
Educational:If it totally botches up your system, you can practice
reinstalling everything from scratch.
Cons:
Neither SAS and Storm Package manager will work (as far as I can tell)
with a complete apt-get dist-upgrade.

>From someone who over the past couple of months has tried this four
times on two Celerons, each with 128 Mb RAM. (The second one was
networked to a fast internet connection, so it didn't take me all day to
test the results):
1. Back up all of the files that you care about. (You might leave on all
the files you never want to see again)
2. Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list (You could do this in the Storm
Package Manger if you want, or use a text editor)
3. Logout and Login as root under failsafe
4. "apt-get update" followed by "apt-get upgrade" has worked for me.
This will upgrade your files (I should have stopped there) and will
probably leave you with a working system. "apt-get dist-upgrade" has
only produced disasterous results for me....I cannot overemphasize
disasterous. Basically everything hangs, and when you reboot, you get a
lot of junk in the boot messages until the whole thing just locks up.
Also, using Storm Package Manager (I don't know how you could use SAS)
is possibly not the best idea, since programs which are running at the
time may hang.
If you want a representative view of potato, go to the
Stormlinux-testers-list archives for July since, (correct me if I am
wrong, you beta testers) the test version of the next release is
essentially just "potato" anyway. It seems like the beta testers are
more prone to admitting the "cons" in the interest of ironing out the
bugs before the next stable distribution release...in any case, you will
get an idea of the problems you could potentially have with some of the
applications if you upgrade right now.
Good luck!
