Hi:
Rogers does seem to use the NIC MAC address, or at least their LanCity
modems do. If you have trouble connecting a new NIC to the cable modem,
just unplug the AC power from the modem for about 20 seconds, then plug
it back in - all the while boing attached to the new NIC. This should
reset things.
I have found static addressing works well, despite Rogers's plea to use
DHCP.
